Web site number 2. TRU restaurant wanted a site that represented its elegance and style. This was the second site acting as a developer for Purple Monkey Studios. Visiting the site, one is immediately struck by the simple understated beauty. Here, the challenge was in messaging basic HTML down to the most subtle nuance. Working closely with the lead graphic designer, each page was scrutinized against the original layout. Many of the thin, 1 pixel lines were made to be liquid html table cells rather than using tiling images. Also, the rollover images Tour and Art pages were my first crack at hand coding rollover images in javascript.
Baptism by fire. That's how I would describe my first assignment as a lead developer for a web site while working for Purple Monkey Studios. In 2000, the Village of Oak Park embarked upon a complete rebuild of it's municipal web site which consisted of "sub" sites for each village municipality. Having learned HTML freehand and being very new with Dreamweaver, much of the site was hand coded including extensive sub navigation for Village services, logical directories for public forms such as permits, and a cool but complicated pop-up scheme for inter-related services. The key was site architecture and planning.
